Gene Anthony has 18 years executive and legal search experience. He specializes in the placement of partners and practice groups throughout the nation. Gene heads the Texas and Pennsylvania Partner Placement Divisions – and has successfully represented some of the most prominent partners and groups in Houston, Dallas, Philadelphia and other cities.

In the last few months, he has handled the moves of several partners including: well-respected patent litigation partner Mark Nelson from Dentons to Barnes & Thornburg; heath care and finance litigation partners Robert Castle and Jamie Welton from Lackey Hershman to Barnes & Thornberg; life sciences partner Thomas J. Sullivan from Morgan Lewis & Bockius to Shook, Hardy & Bacon; the move of Steve Camp and his Gardere banking group to Husch Blackwell-all in Dallas, and the move of Kevin Greenberg to the Government Law and Corporate Group of Greenberg Traurig in Philadelphia.

Consistently placed on the “short list” of top recruiters in Texas, Gene has facilitated the moves of other prominent groups including: the eight lawyer Andrews & Kurth structured finance and real estate group headed by partners Patrick Sargent, Peter McKee, Charles Marshall and Mark Harris to Alston & Bird; the eight lawyer government enforcement, white collar and commercial litigation group headed by Danny Ashby, Steve J. Korotash, former SEC Enforcement Officer and federal prosecutor and commercial litigator T. Greg Jackson to Morgan Lewis (Dallas/Houston); a five lawyer I.P. and patent prosecution group headed by Denton partners Gerald Welsh and Darin W. Weaver to launch the Dallas office of national IP firm – Harness Dickey. In Houston transactions, he represented long-term Baker & Botts litigation partner Shira Yoshor to Greenberg Traurig and Strasburger & Price finance and bankruptcy partner John Adkins to Blank Rome. Among the deals he handled in California was the representation of DLA corporate specialist Tom Duley as a partner to King & Spalding in Silicon Valley, where he anchors the transactional life science practices.

Gene has an interesting search and placement background. Starting in 1999, he entered the insurance placement arena and quickly became the office’s top producer – placing executives and technology professionals. He built and developed a proprietary database of insurance professionals. In 2003, he and another started a new organization and the two built it into one of California’s leading insurance search firms with 12 recruiters. In 2005, he and a colleague transitioned the firm into attorney placement where he handled the moves of several partners. He either personally handled or supervised the placement of partners at: Greenberg Traurig; KL Gates; Alston & Bird; Bryan Cave; Adams & Reese; Davis Wright Tremaine; Fox Rothchild; Burke Williams; Archer Norris; Musick Peeler; Husch Blackwell and other firms.

Tired of the administrative responsibilities of running a search firm, Gene joined highly respected L.A.-based Esquire Inc. in 2013. He has been particularly successful in not only leveraging Esquire’s national platform and long-term client relationships- but adding new ones. Gene is considered an excellent “match-maker” and spends a significant amount of time understanding partner’s unique practices, their career objectives- and financial requirements. He and Esquire President Sandy Lechtick have collaborated on a number of significant deals in the last four years and continue to meet with partners in Dallas, Houston and Philadelphia.

Gene is happily married and a proud father and regularly does volunteer work throughout greater L.A. In his free time he enjoys living a healthy California lifestyle as well as sports, hiking, traveling, screenplay writing, directing and producing independent films.
