Allen C. Mixon, III (J.D. Loyola Law School, 1986) is one of the preeminent legal recruiters in California. Since 1989, he has facilitated the moves of more than one hundred attorneys (partners and associates) at many of the top regional and national firms in California and the East Coast. A partial list includes: Allen Matkins; Bryan Cave; Gibson Dunn; Greenberg Glusker; Howrey; Jeffer Mangels; Jenner & Block; Jones Day; Kirkland & Ellis; Latham & Watkins; McDermott Will; Mayer Brown; Milbank Tweed; Mitchell Silberberg; Morrison & Foerster; Munger Tolles; O'Melveny; Proskauer; Quinn Emanuel; Skadden Arps; Stroock; Sullivan & Cromwell; Thacher Proffitt, and Wilson Sonsini. He has placed a number of attorneys in-house such as Amgen Inc.; Law Research Corp.; Marriott Corp.; Microstrategy, Inc.
The diversity of Allen's career trajectory has given him the unique experience enjoyed by few in the attorney placement arena. After receiving a B.S. in Accounting (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1975) he began his career as a staff accountant with American Hospital Supply Corporation (now called Baxter Healthcare International). Within five years he obtained his C.P.A. certificate, while developing personal skills in the placement of accounting and financial professionals to major corporations.
In 1983, Allen relocated to Los Angeles to attend Loyola Law School. While in law school, he advanced his tax experience by auditing federal income tax returns for the Internal Revenue Service. After a return stint at the I.R.S. (auditing pension, stock bonus, profit-sharing plans and related), he concluded that his personality and analytic skills were more aligned to working directly with people- advancing careers- and number crunching when necessary. Allen's organizational skills, ability to analyze numbers and attention to detail has been invaluable in his success in placing attorneys-in law firms and in-house.
In 1989, he embarked on the present stage of his career- attorney placement. His initial years were at two prominent Los Angeles search firms. In 2010, as the market recovers from complex volatility, he saw the need for aligning himself with a legal search firm with the national reach and reputation of Esquire, Inc. Allen will be working with us to achieve Esquire’s diversity recruitment effort goals. He also continues community involvement by being a university part-time accounting faculty member.
