LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 11, 2014) – Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Jonathan F. Atzen has joined the firm’s Los Angeles office as a partner in the Emerging Companies & Venture Capital practice. Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Atzen was a partner with Sheppard Mullin.
“Jon is a great addition to our LA office and the firm,” said Ron McIntire, office managing partner of Perkins Coie’s Los Angeles office. “His strong ties to the southern California technology community, entrepreneurs, angels and venture capital sources bolsters our local bench and his stellar reputation is an excellent fit for our leading emerging company practice.”
Atzen has extensive experience in representing publicly traded and private technology companies with respect to equity and debt offerings and has advised entrepreneurs and companies on numerous venture capital financings and mergers and acquisitions. He works with clients in the Internet, e-commerce, software, life sciences, mobile technologies, and alternative energy industries and regularly represents venture-backed companies and private equity/venture capital funds, angels and technology accelerators in their investments in technology companies. His experience counseling public companies includes securities offerings, PIPEs, spin-offs and SEC reporting and compliance. Atzen also has significant experience guiding clients involved in public and private mergers and acquisitions. His career includes serving as general counsel to a venture capital fund and was Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Advanced Cell Technology, a publicly-traded regenerative medicine technology company.
“Jon will be a terrific asset to both our emerging companies practice in Southern California and our larger national network,” said Melanie Rubocki, co-chair of Perkins Coie’s Emerging Companies & Venture Capital practice. “His in-house experience gives him exceptional insight into what clients look for in outside counsel and his work for private and public companies is especially helpful for high-growth companies.”
Atzen earned his J.D. from the Loyola Law School, Los Angeles and his B.A. undergraduate degrees in both economics and political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
